Review: Manifest by Artist Arthur

With a continuously expanding young adult book market it’s easy to get lost in the nearly hundreds of titles that are published monthly. I came across Manifest via NetGalley.com and the synopsis immediately caught my interest. Now having read the story, I’m pleased to say that this book delivers.

Krystal Bentley is a fifteen year old teenager adjusting to the divorce of her parents and relocation from New York City to her mother’s hometown, Lincoln, Connecticut. In addition to dealing with the issues of fitting in at a new school, living with her new stepfather, Krystal meets Ricky Watson and all of her current issues seem to pale in comparison. He’s cute, funny –her perfect guy. The only problem is he’s a ghost and he wants her to help find out who killed him. Initially, Krystal refuses to help Ricky. She’s got enough on her hands with her own life. But when she meets kids at school - Jake, who can move things with his mind and Sasha who can disappear, she realizes there may be more going on in Lincoln than just her ghost-whisperer tendencies.

Manifest is the debut young adult novel of award winning author, Artist Arthur. Already an established romance writer, Arthur was urged to write a young adult novel by her daughter. She’s scores big, creating a novel that’s easy to read and blends in with today’s teen paranormal genre. What’s refreshing about Manifest is that it steers clear of the typical creature/vampire/Fae characters and brings supernatural talents back into the teen paranormal genre. It’s a well written novel for teens and sets up a storyline for a great new series. Book Two, Mystify and Book Three, Mayhem are scheduled for publication in February 2011 and August 2011 respectively.
