Review & Giveaway - Re-Rambled: Food and Thought by Angelia Vernon Menchan

Author Summary
Here I go again, writing down thoughts that RAMBLE through my mind. I must once again confess that this was something I was asked to do and when asked I try to comply.  Within these pages are my views and my views only, on many things, the things that saved me, helped me and brought me through. I am also adding in recipes of food that sustains me and my family and again because I was asked to do so.

So please, take whatever you get from this and toss the rest over your shoulder and remember, to BE THE PEACE YOU SEEK~ by author, Angelia Vernon Menchan

Re-Rambled: Food and Thought is a thoughtful collection of work and life experiences from author Angelia Vernon Menchan.  It's the updated version of her original release, Rambled and was created from postings from her blog.
Menchan provides her personal views on relationships, self-evaluation, fear, love, you name it and she's touched on it.  'Don't Go for That' talks about self-accountability "people do to you what you allow, if someone is disrespecting you, there had to be a first time, now think back to how you handled it."  In 'Paying it Forward' Menchan talks about reaching out to support those who are striving to make something of themselves. "To whom, much is given, much is expected..."
Let's not forget the FOOD!  Re-Rambled also contains a few of Menchan's favorite recipes for Bread Pudding, Macaroni and Cheese and Beef Short-ribs to name a few.
It's hard to provide a generic review for Re-Rambled. It's the type of book that will impact each reader differently. You may find insight for your own life lessons or see something that you can share with your family and friends.  Either way, it's definitely comfort food for the soul.

Angelia Vernon Menchan considers writing to be the elixir of her soul. Since learning penmanship at age four, most days have found her jotting down thoughts in a notebook. After decades of journal-keeping she decided to try her hand at writing and publishing books, from which was born her small publishing company, M.A.m.m. Productions through which she publishes her own books that she has coined, 'Fictionalized Truths, Ageless Fiction and Ramblings.'
When not writing, Angelia is a wife, mother, mentor and nana who loves reading almost as much as writing. Angelia is also an Avid Blogger and posts blogs most days to her blog, RAMBLINGS at or for Skirt Magazine at

Review: Cheat the Grave by Vicki Pettersson

Summary from
Las Vegas socialite and otherworldly avenger Joanna Archer gave up everything when she embraced mortality—abandoning her powers and altering her destiny to save a child . . . and a city. Now her former allies are her enemies—and her enemies have nothing to fear.
Yet still she is bound to a prophecy that condemns her to roam a nightmare landscape that ordinary humans cannot see and dare not enter. And a beast is on her trail—an insane killer blinded by bloodlust, who's determined to rip much more from Joanna than merely her now-fragile life. Survival is no longer an option in this dark realm where good and evil have blurred into confusing shades of gray—unless she can gather together an army of onetime foes and destroy everything she once believed in.

***Series Spoiler Alert***
If you haven’t read this series, please note that while I don’t write spoilers about the current storyline, there may be details from previous books noted below

Heroine Joanna Archer returns in the fifth installment of the Signs of the Zodiac series, Cheat the Grave and its hands down one the best books in the series. The story picks up shortly after the events that occurred in book 4, City of Souls and Joanna is now human. No more super human skills. No more super healing. Her destiny is over. Or is it? What could happen next? Everything!

Hunted by her enemies, targeted by her former friends, Joanna attempts to make sense of her life now that she no longer has a pre-ordained destiny to follow. But she’s running out of time as an old killer hunts her down to repay a debt that’s owed – in her blood.

I gave Cheat the Grave 5 stars because I received nearly ALL of the answers to the questions that were driving me insane in the previous books. I even received confirmation on the biggest question of the ALL! But you’ve gotta read it – I’m not telling.

Action, murder, mayhem, surprise after surprise and the ultimate showdown – all wrapped up in a single book. Kudos to Vicki Pettersson for keeping book 5 as exciting as the first!

And We Now Return to Our Original Program....

So I had this whole summer planned out. I was going to read about 12 different books on my Wish List, write reviews and just breeze through the summer.  Well summer is over, all three kids are heading back to school - and while I've been reading like a banshee - I've barely written a single review.
I know CRAZY right? Well as I sit here wondering how this happened several names come to mind -- Belinda with Hanging With Bells, Marquetta with LovestoReadforFun -- twitter partners in crime -aka my Kindle Pimps have been routinely throwing out new authors and titles via their blog postings and tweets that have totally blown my planned list to HADES!!!!
So with my deepest apologies to my followers I will now return to my original programming :)  But first .....check out all the stuff I DID read this summer!!

Reviews for all of these titles will be coming soon -- as in starting today!  So keep and eye out -- my keyboard will be smoking soon!!

How did you get YOUR read on this summer?  Let me know!

How Lucky Am I? I'm <----This Lucky---->

The Lucky Book Fairy blessed me last week with with two FAN-TABULOUS events!

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting author, Jeaniene Frost at Borders Books for the reading and signing of her latest release, Eternal Kiss of Darkness.  I can't begin to describe how excited I was to finally meet one of my favorite authors (singing) IN THE WORLD (stop singing)--and NOT have to stand in line for 9 hours or get hustled in and out for a 30 second convo.  The weather was HORRIBLE!! Like SUPER BAD thunder and rain but we all stuck it out.

Frost was engaging, entertaining and she pumped the audience of 30+ fans for questions.  She shared her thoughts on writing, her characters and read the first scenes from Eternal Kiss of Darkness and her short story about Cat and Bones in her recent anthology, Death's Excellent Vacation.  Not familiar with her work? Click here to see my Book Series Sunday feature on the Night Huntress Series.

Also, a big shout out to Twitter pal @SweetiePiePen. It was great meeting you! See you at Sherrilyn Kenyon's book signing next month!!

Author, Jeaniene Frost @ Borders in Charlotte, NC

OK-- FAN-TABULOUS EVENT #2! (I know amazing huh?)

So on Saturday, Carolina Romance Writers presented a writing workshop given by science fiction romance author Linnea Sinclair!!!  She presented a fun and informative workshop on Character Torture - Creating Conflict with your Characters.

Sinclair is funny -- no I mean it. Seriously.  She had the entire crowd enthralled and cracking up with her humor and insight for writing strong conflict.  Needless to say - she's got it nailed down.  Here are a few of her most recent titles:
