Book Pimps - Who They Are and Why We Love Them - Day Three

Welcome to Day Three of Book Pimps - Who They Are and Why We Love Them! I'm really enjoying sharing my Book Pimps with the world. They've had such a huge impact on my reading life that I have to wonder -- how did I function before blogging/tweeting? With access to so many blogs and reading recommendations, I'll never want have to figure out what to read next.  I simply contact a Book Pimp and BOOM.. I'll have a title tweeted to me in less than 5 minutes.  I'm and addict and they have what I need.  Don't judge me!ROFL

Today I have the great pleasure of introducing you to the dynamic duo, the sisters of Smokin' Hot Books! I have to say, it was K.C.'s avi on Twitter that first caught my attention. I thought it was sooooo super cute! Then I went to the Smokin' Hot website and Lost. My. Mind. These ladies are just awesome with the wide range of books that they review and pimp.  Well I'll let them do the talking....

Tell us a little about yourselves:
We here at Smokinhotbooks have one rule, the smut better be steamin', the action better make us say "Whoa" (in a Keanu Reeves accent) and every book that we read has to leave an imprint in the design of the hoaky poem "Footprints".

Who are your top 3 Book Pimps and what do they pimp to you?

Smexybooks: She feeds my book addiction and hand to god I spend at least an extra $20-$50 a month on books because of her reviews. Smexybooks was one of the first blogs I came across when K-Khan and I (KC) started blogging.

Fiction Vixen: We are twins separated at birth (probably) - she has a wonderful blog and she wows me with her graphic skillz and reviews that make me chuckle.

EroticRomReader: Janna's blog feeds my smuttier side. She knows how to start my Monday off with her "Smutty Hot Couple" then she makes me squirt myself with h2o with her steamy excerpts she posts on her current read. What I like most about Janna's blog is her insight on m/m books. I don't even need to shop around on Goodreads or Amazon.

Name the top three books that were Pimped to you that you absolutely loved and why:

I have to say that we definitely succumb to peer pressure, and haven't been let down once! Three books that were pimped out to us that we can't stop raving about,

1. The Chess Putnam series by Stacia Kane - This is probably one of the most unique story lines that I would have never imagined myself reading, all due to the fact that the heroine is an addict. I know, I'm such a square, but it's true! Oh how wrong I was to have protested. This series is one of the best of 2010. It has incredible action, raw characters and an ability to make you feel as if you've lived out the sequences of the book. Plus Terrible is like sex on a stick. Check out review here.

2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - First off, ever since the mania that is the Twihards I've been a bit reluctant to pick up a young adult book. Enter the Hunger Games. A fricken awesome, post-apocalyptic series that tells the tale of how young woman can inspire others to rise up against the system and give their lives for a chance at freedom. A modern day Orwellian adventure of 1984 meets Survivor. Check our review here.

3. Lord of White Hell by Ginn Hale - We always have to throw in manlove - Katiebabs pimped this series out to me and all I can say is woo and hoo. This series is like an adult version of Harry Potter but with two dudes that fall in love. One of my favorite new series, hell even Josh Lanyon likes it. Check our review here.

Funny that Smokin' Hot's last book was on manlove. On Tuesday's post, Marq of Love to Read for Fun talked about Black Wade a manlove graphic novel that KC recommended. I just had to share the cover art with you so you.  I need to add this to my *private* collection soon! Check out KC's review here.

Even as I wrote this post this evening, K.C. was on Twitter talking about another book series with Bells & SmexyBooks.  It was 10:10 p.m and yes she was talking about the next book she needed to buy.  Here's my Tweet:

ME: @smexybooks @smokinhotbooks @bellie7 ok DANG... y'all be Pimpin at night TOO??? ::::pullin out my CC::::::

KC: @DrensBspot the pimpin is 24/7 it never stops;)

Folks, I don't make this stuff up!  As you can see, Smokin' Hot Books is hands down a.....

Book Pimps - Who They Are and Why We Love Them - Day Two

Welcome to Day Two of Book Pimps - Who They are and Why We Love Them! This week I'm  sharing my favorite book pimps with the world.  They're the ones who keep me adding to my TBR list on Goodreads.com and using the Amazon 1-Click for Precious (my Kindle).  Who needs release emails from B&N or Borders when you've got Bonafide and Certified Book Pimps telling you what you need? Not me!
PhotobucketToday, I introduce you to my Ace-Boom-Coom -- Bells of Hanging With Bells! As with all my Book Pimps, I met Bells on Twitter.  I loved reading her blog and I follow her on Twittah like a stalker. When Bells talks about books - I listen because I know she's going to mention something that I absolutely-must-add-to-my-TBR-list-or-Precious-right-now!  So, without further delay, please meet my next Book Pimp... Bells!

Yo PIMP! Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a married mother of 4 children. My children 15.5, 10.5, 7, and 22 months. The older 3 are boys that don't like to clean, and the youngest is my Boss Lady daughter. Oh, I forgot my biggest child of all, MY HUSBAND! You ladies out there know what I'm talking about! We have been together for 17 years and married for 11. (yes we lived in sin for a bit) I'm a stay at home mom during the day and 3 times a week I get to go to my wonderful part-time job at my local public library to stare at books that I should not bring home. And clean up after complete strangers. Yes I clean during the morning and clean during the afternoon/evening. When I say clean I mean pick up all the books that people like to throw about. But other than that I love working at a library. It was my first job at age 16 and I've never wanted to work anywhere else. My goal is to one day work at the Library of Congress. The goal almost came true a few years ago but, I got preggers with TBL (The Boss Lady) and decided to stay home with her. So I get the opportunity to clean up behind my family and tweet to my wonderful new friends!

I started a blog last year and it's all about fun to me. I called it Hanging With Bells because I wanted the reader that was visiting my blog to come and hang with me. I like to talk about just about everything and anything. Books, music, and movies are my main loves, but, I like to talk about different things once in a while such as dinosaurs, crap that I want to buy, and men. But not just any men, hot men. Yes I am man crazy. (JOE!!!) I seriously believe I was man crazy where I came out of my mommas womb! (Gosh I hope that doctor was fine!) My main focus on the blog however is books. I love them so much because they are an escape from my world of crying, diapers, and whining. I love my family dearly, but they drive me absolutely crazy.

Who are your Top 3 book pimps?

1. My number one, una suprema, book pimp is Smexybooks! Smexi, as I like to call her, has recommended so many wonderful books to me. I would see her tweet about characters and how she loved them. I would ask her whom she was speaking about and she said would tell me about what books the characters were in. She was right and I became addicted to Curran, Barrons, Ethan, and Disco. Oh Disco how I love you so. So yeah, she is my go to person for books. I watch her tweets like a hawk! You never know when she's going to discuss a new book or character. She's downright awesome I tell ya! Check out her blog at smexybooks.com and you'll see what I'm talking about. She didn't win that big fancy book blogger award for nothin!

2. I originally got most of my recommends from Amazon. I wasn't reading a lot due to the kids and all. At work I kept seeing this book that seemed to be getting checked out a lot. It was Twilight. I brought it home and was instantly addicted. After plowing through the first 3 books, I didn't have anything to read. So I went to Amazon and saw all of the wonderfully recommends. Those recommends directed me to some of my favorite books such as The Black Dagger Brotherhood (shouts BDB4EVA!), Kresley Cole's books, and my favorite author, Gena Showalter. (chanting Gena, Gena, Gena). I still go there from time to time to get more recommends.

3. I also get a lot of recommends from folks on Twitter. There are lots of book lovahs on there that like to talk about books as much as I do. Twitter is my crack yo! Once I start tweeting, it's hard for me to stop.

Top 3 books that were pimped to you:

Gosh this is going to be hard. But they are:

1. The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. I love this series so much! Kate and Curran have the best banter that has me giggling like a schoolgirl as I am reading it. Curran rocks my world. He's a shifter that is a lion, but he has a softer side. When he told Kate that he missed her in Magic Bleeds, I freaking cried! I'm tearing up right now thinking about it. If you haven't read this series read it, it's so good. (I'm pimping while I am talking about pimping. Yeah I'm diehard ba-by!)

2. The Fever Series by Karie Marie Moning. I have to admit that I had a hard time getting into the first book, Darkfever. I actually put the book down several times because I wasn't feeling it. But something told me to keep reading it and I'm so glad that I did. I think I even told Pimp Smexi about my issue and she told me to keep reading it too. Thank goodness because Jericho "Say my name" Barrons is a beast! (well that's what we think) I also love the world that she writes about. The Fae, the weird other creatures, the crazy book running from people. I mean who else has a book that runs around trying not to get caught. When I envision the book it's furry with lots of teeth and it has a long tongue that hands down the front of it. That tongue can also be used for a book mark. I also love the Death by sex Fae! Holy Moly on the day when the Lord above calls me home, that's the way I want to go! YEAHHHHHH!! (Total Perv)

3. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. If I had to choose which series had my heart, it would be this one. I love the brothers so much! I would see the books at work and didn't think anything of them. I saw them being talked about on Amazon and decided to give them a try. I read Dark Lover and could not wait to see what would happen next. I'm so happy I didn't know about the series because I got to read books 1-5 back to back! I was in book heaven. This is the one series that I constantly think about all they time. The brothers complete me and rock my world. I want a Black Dagger so badly. (holds breath) I want to drink Grey Goose while playing pool while bumping Biggie & 2 Pac in background while kicking it with the brothers while Fritz makes us some food while all the brothers decide to fall in love with me until the bonding scent suffocates us and then V has to take me to his Penthouse apartment! (releases breath) BDB4EVA!!!!

I have a video of my book pimp walking skillz. Want to see it? Here it goes:

Yes, yes when my pimping boots burst that means I'm outta money! Gosh I love that video! LOL!

See what I mean people? Bells is so off the charts with her book pimpin...she's got a walk AND a video!!  I will be in her debt 4EVA for introducing me to the purest, juiciest and sexiest smut written to-date -- the Demonica Series by Larissa Ione. Now to be fair - Marquetta of Love to Read for Fun (aka my Kindle Pimp) tuned me on to the Demoncia series FIRST -- But I was so giddy with excitement - I started on the 2nd book - Desire Unchained and then for some insane reason - I never went back to the first book.  But it was Bells who jacked up the Pimp factor and fueled my "I've gotta read this NOW" with her Monday Smutty Goodness post.

SMUT WARNING: This is not safe for work. There are no nude images, but after reading her post, you will need to change your panties. You have been warned!

Bells has also pimped PEOPLE to me!! Like the fabulous JASaare, author of  Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between and Gini Koch author of Touched by an Alien and probably half of the Twittah folks I follow. Yeap, Bells Pimps people, movies and she's most definitely a......

Stay tuned for Thursdays's post where the Queen of Hotness will stop by... KC from Smokin Hot Books! In case you missed it, check out Tuesday's Book Pimp Post from Love To Read For Fun.

Thank You Jennifer Rardin - Tribute & Giveaway

On Monday, September 20th, 2010 one of my favorite urban fantasy authors, Jennifer Rardin passed away unexpectedly.  I found out via Twitter and immediately thought it was someone else -- not *my* Jen Rardin -- couldn't be.  But as the news spread, I realized it was true and I had to stop and pause for a minute.  The first thing that popped into my head was JAZ IS GONE? I know it sounds weird - but for me - Jennifer Rardin *was* Jaz Parks.  I couldn't separate the two.  I followed her on Twitter, her blog and Goodreads.com.  She even replied to my emails of gush and awe at her work.  She was amazing. Her writing - amazing. Her characters - full of life, humor and kick-ass adventures.  Thinking -- knowing that she's gone, leaves me sad and empty.  If this is how I feel as a reader, I can only imagine what her family is going through.

So with the help of Has from The Book Pushers, a few of us bloggers have created a tribute tour in memory of Jennifer Rardin.  It's our way of saying Thank You to a wonderful author, mother and friend to many.

I've been a fan of Jennifer Rardin's work since her first book, Once Bitten, Twice Shy. I was introduced to Jaz Parks - government assassin and her hunky vampire boss Vayl and never looked back!  Each book takes you on new adventures with Jaz and Vayl and their mishmash group of characters also known as their support team.  You learn about what makes Jaz tick and what ticks Vayl off. The chemistry between the two main characters and their cohorts makes for a great read and a great series. But first and foremost - it's an Urban Fantasy and Jennifer does not disappoint.  There's plenty of action and suspense in every single book that keeps you asking for "more please!!" I've been anxiously waiting for Book 7 to be released this fall; now even more so.

I hope with this tribute tour we can introduce Jaz to new readers all over - and reminisce with old readers for the good times.

I'm Jaz Parks. My boss is Vayl, born in Romania in 1744. Died there too, at the hand of his vampire wife, Liliana. But that's ancient history. For the moment Vayl works for the C.I.A. doing what he does best--assassination. And I help. You could say I'm an Assistant Assassin. But then I'd have to kick your ass.Our current assignment seemed easy. Get close to a Miami plastic surgeon named Assan, a charmer with ties to terrorism that run deeper than a buried body. Find out what he's meeting with that can help him and his comrades bring America to her knees. And then close his beady little eyes forever. Why is it that nothing's ever as easy as it seems?

Jaz Parks has enough trouble in her personal life. What she doesn't need is more trouble with her vampire boss and another mission. This time she has to retrieve a vital piece of biotechnology by killing the maniac who stole it: an ancient Chinese vamp. Their cover in this mission: professional entertainers at the Corpus Christi's Winter Festival. The crew's all here: a psychic, a techno-wizard, a singing vampire, a juggling PI, and Jaz. Holy crap in a bottomless well, Jaz is going to bellydance. It's definitely, probably, quite possibly going to be the end of the world as we know it

This is a mission unlike anything my vampire boss, Vayl, and I have ever been on. It's not our usual take them out and run; it's an undercover mission that needs the whole gang: a psychic, an interpreter, and a weapons specialist. We're joining a Special Ops team to nail the Wizard, a major terrorist thorn in the military's side. We've never gone in with such heavy artillery before, but the more the merrier, right? Um . . . nope. At least not since Vayl and I learned part of our job is to ferret out a mole concealed in our unit.  To add to our problems, we're being harried by a pack of reavers bent on revenge, and targeted by a Seer who wants to share Vayl's power - at any cost. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the army of demonic, soul-sucking parasites either. This is going to be a blast.

Jaz Parks here. My latest mission has taken me to the ancient Greek city of Patras; but instead of soaking up its splendor, I'm here to infiltrate a Vampere Trust. Only two vamps have ever escaped the tightly bound communities and lived to tell the tale: Edward "The Raptor" Samos, the most reviled criminal mastermind in recent memory, and Vayl, the CIA's number one assassin who also happens to be my boss.

The Raptor is trying to take over Vayl's former Trust. Unfortunately the Trust's new leader has her own plans.

This job is going to be the death of me.

It's Jaz Parks. I've already smoked the guy who was the pain in the CIA's you-know-what for the past few years. But now, in the power vacuum left by the death of Edward "The Raptor"Samos, a struggle for supremacy has begun between his former allies: The Flock, The Valencian Weres and the Coven of Inverness.

The CIA feels the balance must be maintained. So when an agent planted among the Weres discovers a plot to assassinate the Coven's leader, I and my vampire hottie (and boss), Vayl, are brought in to take out the woman hired to do the deed, a killer who might be as wily and Gifted as ourselves.

So it's off to the Scottish Highlands for some twisted fun among murderers, demons and half-crazed relatives. Sometimes being a top-secret CIA assassin isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Jaz Parks here. But I'm not alone. I'm hearing voices in my head - and they're not mine.

The problem, or maybe the solution, is work. And the job's a stinker this time -- killing the gnomes that are threatening to topple NASA's Australian-based space complex. Yeah, I know. Vayl and I should still be able to kick this one in our sleep. Except that Hell has thrown up a demon named Kyphas to knock us off track. And damn is she indestructible!

Jaz Parks here. I. Am. Pissed. Just as Vayl and I arrive in Morocco to secure an ancient artifact, he wakes up calling me by another woman’s name. And it’s not even a good one. But since any form of argument transforms him into an unholy terror, I’m forced to play along until the gang and I can figure out what kind of power has so vastly altered his perceptions.

So it’s time for me to do what any well-trained assassin in my position might do. I attack. What follows is a hair-raising, breath-taking bullet train ride to the finish as the crew battles on multiple fronts. I now know what I have to do – I must return to hell one last time. Release Date: November 8, 2010

As noted on Jennifer Rardin's website, she did complete the last and final book for the series and it will be released in June 2011.

Book Pimps – Who They are and Why We Love Them!

Photobucket

Over the last few months I’ve received so many great book recommendations – my TBR list is currently on super backlog. I even purchased a Kindle 2 earlier this spring because everyone was screaming about it on Twitter. So, in celebration for all the Book Pimps that exist in the blogosphere and Twitterville -- I'm dedicating this week to Book Pimps! Who They Are and Why We Love Them!

First up is my girl Marquetta of Love To Read For Fun. First let me say. Marq is a "subtle" Book Pimp. She won't bombard you with book titles -- she's not a salesman for her book product. Marq is sneaky. She'll parade her reviews on Twitter and her blog and will force YOU to come to her. You'll read her reviews and say, hmmm I need to check that one out. Then when you DO read it -- you're hooked. You find yourself wondering what can she recommend NEXT? You follow her on Goodreads, you look for review post notices.... you're hooked. The Pimp has done her job.

Who: Marquetta

Tell us a little about yourself Marq:

Marq: My blog (Love To Read For Fun) is not genre specific but you will find that the majority of my reviews are for romance novels. I love romance and I am a sucker for the HEA. I've recently discovered Paranormal Romance so my blog has been more PNR heavy lately. My blog and my reviews definitely reflect my personality. I am unapologetically honest in my reviews which I hope my readers appreciate.

Who are your top 3 Book Pimps and what do they pimp to you? :

Marq:
1. The Queen of Book Pimping and my baby powduh slaggin' buddy, Bells (Hanging With Bells) - She introduced me to PNR. The books and series and authors are too many to name. Her first recommendation was Bloodfever by Karen Moning. I will forever be grateful for her introducing me to the wonderful Barrons.

2. Twitter - Not a person but I get so many of my book recs from my tweeps via twitter. Thanks to tweer pressure, I finally purchased and read the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. I can't tell you how many folks on twitter recommended the series to me. I finally caved and I am so glad I did.

3. Smokinhotbooks: Smokinhot gets special recognition for introducing me to Black Wade. When I read her review, I knew I had to buy the book. It's a m/m graphic novel. I popped my m/m cherry thanks to her!

Name the top three books that were Pimped to you that you absolutely loved and why:

Marq: I'm not going to be able to pick books so I'm going to provide my top three series.

-The Fever Series - Why I love it? One word - Barrons. That's why everyone should read it! Oh yeah, and the world building, plot and other characters and all that other good stuff.

-The Demonica Series - Why I love it? Seminus Demon brothers who need sex to survive. They work at a hospital for demons (Underworld General Hospital). The smex in these books will have you changing your panties.

-Night Huntress World series - Why I love it? Bones and Chapter 32. Enuff said. :)

See what I mean? Marq is the reason why "I" picked up the Fever series -- as well as why I gave my husband the "sad face" and asked for Kindle 2 for Mother's Day.  So check out her blog, reviews and her tweets.  All of the above make Marquetta a ...

Be sure to check back tomorrow and be introduced to Book Pimp Extraordinaire.... Bells of Hanging With Bells!

Review: Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane

The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

Author: Stacia Kane
Publication: May 19th 2010
Format: Paperback, 346 pages
Disclaimer: This book was purchased by me

Have you ever started a book where after the first few pages you *know* you've got an interesting read?  Something so unique and different and off the beaten path that you say to yourself *what the heck?*  Enter the world of Unholy Ghosts and you'll meet Chess Putnam. Churchwitch. Debunker. Functional Drug Addict.  Yeah I said it -- Functional Drug Addict.  Interested yet?

Author Stacia Kane has created a world where there's no such thing as Casper the Friendly Ghost -- more like House on Haunted Hill-want to kill you- type of ghosts and the Church of Real Truth uses magic to keep them under control and the world at-large safe.  Toss in drug lords and a sexy enforcer named Terrible and you've got a recipe for great story... a fantastic series and just pages and pages of simple awesomeness better known as The Downside.

I can't sing enough praises about Unholy Ghosts and Stacia Kane.  Her world is so unique and different, it pulls you right in.  Unholy Ghosts is the first book in the Downside series. I've read all three and will post reviews for all three.  If you're craving for something fresh and new to add to your Urban Fantasy shelves - get with The Downside - you won't be disappointed.

BBAW - Unexpected Treasure - Clutch Your Pearls Ladies!!

Today's BBAW feature is called Unexpected Treasure:

Book bloggers can be some of the most influential people around! Today we invite you to share with us a book or genre you tried due to the influence of another blogger. What made you cave in to try something new and what was the experience like?

As a reader, I've shifted from pure romance reading to reading die-hard mystery/thrillers. Anything that had a murder with a female lead character set to solve it was my thing!  But over the last few years, I've ventured into Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy and discovered a whole new world! Vampires, Werewolves and Fae -- :::in Usher voice:::: Oh. My. Gosh!

As many can tell - that's the main genre that I'm now post on my blog, (PNR/UF).  But since I started blogging I've discovered the *ahem* Erotica side of both genres (Thanks to Marq, Bells, Mandi and KC).  You know how it goes; someone tweets or blogs about a great book with great sex and you start clicking on Goodreads to read the synopsis and you think hmmm let me see what all the hub-bub is about.  Then BOOM! You read it. Get a little twitchy and think. WOW... I think I'll have another..... and the journey into Erotica Romance begins.

I'll admit - I jumped in head first and never looked back.  While many of the books I've read still have a PNR/UF twist, the erotica is ... amazing.  For example, Larissa Ione's Demonica Series - you need to read this series.  If you don't like it by Chapter 3 - of Book 1, Pleasure Unbound - forget-about-it. Put the book down, erotica isn't for you.  But if you're like me and start "OMG, that's HAWT" on Twitter, Facebook and any other social media tool you're tapped into - you're in for a wonderful world of yum!  A few more great  great series -- Gena Showalter's Lord's of the Underworld, Moira Rogers Red Rock Pass Series I could go on and on and on.

So, Erotica Romance opened up a whole new world for me.  I do plan to get back to my roots of Mystery/Thrillers on my blog - but for right now - *ahem* Snowball Sex (Sin Undone) has my complete and utter attention!
Go on Ladies ::::clutch your pearls::: and Get your read on!

BBAW Interview Swap - Meet Jamie from Perpetual Page-Turner

Yesssss!!! I'm actually getting a chance to participate in BBAW!!!:::doing the happy dance::::  So without further delay, I'm thrilled to introduce everyone to Jamie from Perpetual Page-Turner.  I was lucky enough to be paired with Jamie this morning for the BBAW Interview Swap!! So pull up a seat and get the scoop on Jamie....

1. So Jamie, tell us a little about yourself:

Jamie: My name is Jamie. I'm a 24 year old college grad who works part time as a marketing assistant for a design/architecture magazine. I also blog over at The Broke and the Bookish (www.brokeandbookish.blogspot.com). In addition to reading and blogging, I love fashion and music. My favorite designer at the moment is Anna Sui. My Ipod, much like my bookcase, is very confused as I love variety. I might be listening to Bob Dylan or the Steve Miller band and then Belle and Sebastian, MGMT or Regina Spektor might come on followed by a little Otis Redding or Rick James. I started my blog because I had been wanting to write about all the books that I had been reading while I was unemployed. I also had seen how awesome other blogs were and I just knew it would be something I'd love doing.

2. What's your favorite Genre (Yep you have to pick one):

Jamie: I'd say literary fiction if you are MAKING me pick one. *Scowling at you like a two year old right now* :)

Jamie: Oh gosh. Classic literature-- JD Salinger. Contemporary - Jonathan Safran Foer -- I'm going to finally get to meet him at the National Book Festival!!

Jamie: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer ( I haven't reviewed it because it is too amazing to try and review!)

Jaime: Paper! Although if somebody gave me a free ereader I'm sure I could learn to like it! :)

7. How do you pick your books to review? Personal choice? News Buzz? Word of Mouth?:

Jamie:  A little bit of everything. I moderate the College Students group on Goodreads so I get a lot of recommendations from that. I also come across alot of books from other bloggers that I trust. And sometimes I just browse Goodreads or Borders and find something that looks interesting.

Jamie:  I love traveling and when I can't travel I read about it or watch The Travel Channel. I also really enjoy cooking.

10. Last but not least - What's the best advice you could give to someone else who's thinking about starting their own book blog?

Jamie:  Do not expect to have a zillion readers on your first day or ever if you don't first read and have meaningful interactions with others on their blogs and on Twitter. That would be another thing--get involved on Twitter!

Excellent advice Jamie! Thanks so much for partnering with me today and it was wonderful meeting you and linking up with your great blog!

Review - Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter

Bound by the demon of doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.

Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

Darkest Whisper is book four of the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. We’re introduced to Sabin’s story – the keeper of Doubt and his trials and tribulations of falling in love without driving his partner nuts or making them commit suicide. Yes – harsh but true. Enter Gwen – a timid harpy-angel hybrid. Always unsure of herself and always fighting against her true Harpy nature. When the Lords rescue her and several other supernatural women from a prison Sabin and Gwen realize they share a link stronger than their own internal demons.

To be honest – Sabin’s character has always been “rough” to me – maybe a little too rough. So I was really interested to see how Gena would write him into a “love story”. Bottom line – she gets two thumbs up. The character contrasts between Sabin and Gwen actually work. He’s focused on winning the war – and will do anything and use anyone to make sure the Lords win. She’s quiet, timid and terrified of her “darker half”. Will only kill if threatened and even then she feels guilty about it afterwards. So pairing up the Keeper of Doubt with someone who’s been doubting themselves all their lives is an interesting thing to watch!

The plot for Sabin's story is fast paced in the beginning but then for some reason slows down towards the middle which was disappointing.  The weird part is the character development between Sabin and Gwen is well written and a great read. I love that Showalter continues to keep all of the Lords – those mated and single moving within each storyline so you can continue to see how each develop.

In Darkest Whisper, Sabin is able to maintain his kick-ass personality AND be an awesome lover without shifting into wimpy status. Two thumbs up.   Gwen starts off timid and afraid of everything and then she ........ well you'll need to read the book to get her details. *smile*

Review: Moon Sworn by Keri Arthur

Shape-shifting werewolf and vampire Riley Jenson is through with death–causing it, solving it, surviving it. Her soul mate, Kye Murphy, is dead–and at Riley’s own hands. Not even the seductive embrace of her vampire lover, Quinn, can fully ease her mind, for she has begun questioning everything that makes her Riley–including her job at the Directorate.

Now, the ritualistically slain bodies of ex-cons have started turning up. Reluctantly, Riley takes the case, but something even worse is waiting in the wings. For a vicious enemy from her past is determined to strip Riley of everything that gives her life any meaning: her lover, her brother–and even her own identity. Can Riley survive this ultimate assault? All she knows is, she must fight one last time to find answers, before everything goes dark forever…

There are only two problems with this book: The fact that it’s the last book and that the end wasn’t more gut-spewing-kickass take no prisoners as the past books. LOL I know weird comments, but you’ll have to read the entire series to get my meaning.

In Moon Sworn, Riley must battle old enemies and personal demons to survive this final assault. This book seemed to have a much different tone from previous Jenson novels. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a farewell novel to the series or maybe Keri Arthur ran out over-the-top issues to write about. I wish more attention had been given to Riley’s relationship with Quinn, maybe even more back story about her mother – but it is what it is.

I’ve given it four stars because even if Moon Sworn falls a bit flat – it wraps up some loose ends to the overall story line that brings Riley back full circle. Even if it’s done in a roundabout way.

So farewell Riley Jenson! I loved you from book one and because of you I’ve developed a taste for Hazelnut coffee! I'm also looking forward to Arthur’s new spin-off series featuring Risa all grown up.
