KLB Virtual Events Book Blog Tour: Eternal Rider - by Larissa Ione
His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.
Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.
Favorite Quote - Ares:
"You were right, Cara. I'm a demon. All I've known my entire life is fighting. Battle, sex, it's all the same to me. I fuck like I fight, until the other person is beggin for mercy."
How can I describe how I felt when I finished reading Eternal Rider, Lords of Deliverance Book 1 by Larissa Ione? I think Jack Vettriano's painting "The Letter" nails it. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.......
Yeah, it was totally like that. (just replace the "letter" with Chessiebomb - my K3). I needed a cigarette....yet I don't smoke.
Once again, Larissa Ione knocks it out the park with her new Lords of Deliverance Series featuring the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Eternal Rider is Book 1 and features the story of Ares.
I'm already a huge fan of Ione's Demonica Series, so when the lovely ladies of KLB Virtual Events asked if I was interested in participating on the Book Blog Tour, I literally jumped through my laptop with my acceptance! I received the book a few days later and started reading it late Sunday evening. The next day was I was miffed that I had to go to work and couldn't keep reading -- sooooooo.....I downloaded it to Chessiebomb, connected my earbuds and proceeded to *cough* work *cough* while Eternal Rider streamed via Text-To-Speech into my lovely little ears.
Eargasims anyone? Yeah... it's THAT good!
Ione does a lot of world building in the first initial chapters of the book, but for me it didn't distract from the story. I already had a solid handle on the basics from the Demonica series, so LOD details fell smoothly into place for me. While you don't have to read the Demonica series to be able to dive into Eternal Rider - I highly recommend that you do. Aside from the fact that they're great books (all 5), you'll have a clear handle on where the LOD series will fit in overall. *Special Note for Demonica Fans* There are cameos of all the main characters from Demonica in Eternal Rider so you can get your fix on Doc E and Wraith. But I digress...
Let's talk about Ares.
*insert a moment of silence here*
...... Ok... Ares. Kicks. Ass. Period. Why? ....Um because he's War -- without the evil -- for now. (see favorite quote above). He doesn't love. He doesn't cherish. He was raised to believe love is weakness and with his brother Reseph aka Pestilence gunning for him he can't take any chances. Circumstances occur where he's forced to offer protection for a human woman who in the end turns out to hold the key to his destruction or salvation.
The heroine of our story is named Cara and even with her flawed past and emotional damage I believe she stands out as a strong female character in the story. Cara has an unnatural talent that keeps her apart from the regular world. But when a wounded animal is brought to her home, she is unwillingly sucked into the realm of angels and demons.
My favorite quote from Cara:
"It's just sex Ares."
His eyes flashed. "It's more than that, and you know it."
"No. I don't. I don't want to get attached to you any more than you want to be attached to me. But things are pretty intense all around us, and we could both use a break and a little pleasure. You asked if I'd ever been fucked and I said no. Well now I have. And I liked it. So quit being squeamish, and do it again."
If you're familiar with Ione's work, you know she's not shy with the "lovin" in her books. If Pleasure Unbound didn't set the Smexy Bar on HOT for you - Eternal Rider is going to bust through the ceiling with SCORCHING!!!! Ione has taken things to a whole new level. H.O.T.S. (Hawt Oral Tree Sex) That's all I'm gonna say.
I also loved Ares' other siblings, Thanatos and Limos. Than's curse is Death and even with his stiff and stoic attitude you know that there's much more there hidden underneath. Limos' curse is Famine. Even as an immortal she's a Fashionista after my own heart -- when she's not wearing her armour or cracking ribs with her thighs (oh yeah.... there's rib cracking thigh love in here too!)
Bottom line, Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance Book 1) is the start of a brand new love affair for me. I can't wait for Book 2 - Immortal Rider to be released in December. Limos' story is up next. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more snarky-kick-ass-rib-cracking-thigh-action! And ummm more H.O.T.S couldn't hurt either!
Special thanks again to the lovely ladies of KLB Virtual Events for including me in the Book Blog Tour for such a fantastic book! Don't forget to stop by Stacy's Place tomorrow. She's next on the list for the tour! See the entire tour schedule here.
